This week starts a weekly series here on the Kick Start Success Blog. I will be profiling successful entrepreneurs, marketing place ministry leaders, other successful men and women. These are some power houses so be sure to come back every Thursday for a new profile. Some of the Profiles in Success will include a special for the Kick Start Success Blog readers.
Rod Kirby is the under 30 CEO of Kirby Media Productions. His company specializes in helping entrepreneurs take their business to the next level via the web, video, and with social media. Rod is m a newlywed (going on 6 months!) and editor of The Success Center which is the #1 Christian entrepreneur’s online destination for small business help. Needless to say, he got a lot going on and he says he would have it no other way.
LVH: Who do you serve in your business and why?
I serve small business owners, solo-preneurs, groups, organizations, corporations, or anyone trying to take their business to the next level. I do what I do because I genuinely care and know that God didn’t bless me for nothin’!
LVH: What is your mission?
My mission is to inspire, empower, and equip entrepreneurs for success.
LVH: What three words would you use to describe your success journey? Please share why you chose these words.
My three words would be impatience, prosperous, and sacrifice. Why you ask? Well, I’ve started 3 businesses before my current one, I was extremely impatience with the whole “success process.” I learned a while back that I had to sacrifice my “Rod ideas” for “God ideas.” I also found out that God takes pleasure in the prosperity of his people so I discovered tools (within myself) to be prosperous in life & business.
LVH: What is your definition of success?
I define success not by how many customers come through the door, but by how many leave blessed.
LVH: What is your most successful achievement?
I actually just got married 6 months ago, so I would have to say that was my most successful achievement. Why? Because, the person I married turned out to be my best friend, someone I love dearly, and a strategic business partner! Who knew all that was wrapped beyond her veil?!! (I’m sure, God had something to do with it…)
LVH: What scriptures do you find useful to help you with staying in your success zone?
There’s only 1 that I turn to on a regular basis; Luke 1:37; “For nothing is impossible with God.” [NIV]
This reminds me that if I stick to God’s word, His promises for my life & business, and in a relationship with Him that He won’t withhold ANYTHING from me! It’s awesome.
LVH: What tips do you have for someone struggling with becoming successful?
Get organized; get your ideas out of your head and on paper. It doesn’t have to be a 30 page business plan, but at least write out your services, products, and etc. on one sheet.
The Bible says “make the vision plain so those that read it may run with it.”
2. Get educated; if you don’t know how to start a business (the legal aspects of it) or you don’t know how to design a website, learn how to do it! You’ll save yourself time, money, and headaches. I didn’t know anything about video, but now I produce my own popular web show . . . learn and never stop learning!
3. Put your plan into action; sometimes you just have to stop planning and get to work. Don’t sit around looking for help or waiting on all the pieces to come together . . . just do it!
LVH: Do you have any special offers or discounts for our readers?
Absolutely! If you need help with social media marketing, video production, or even just need some business advice, contact me and mention coupon code; “LaTara” for 20% off your first order!
