Proverb the Month

A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverb 1:5-7

From The Editor's Pen

For many months I have been grappling with the fact that so many Believers think that faith and business don't mix. I could not understand why so many people basically hid their belief in Chris as Savior; when there were just as many who don't believe, coloring their business with the Law of Attraction and other New Age Philosophies.

Why God do your Children see is so hard to see that faith and business really do mix?

It was simply beyond me. It is as if they may be ashamed to say they believe in God. While I don't target Christians as my main market, I do share with all my clients that I am a Believer and Doer of the Word ,and, as a result there are some things I cannot promote and will not do for money. For the most part they have no problem with it.

I am also not afraid to let them know if I need to pray about a situation concerning business before I respond or act. Again, total respect.

Then I asked myself why they respect my choices. It boiled down to the fact that I don't Bible bash, judge, or condemn others for the choices they make in life. That makes such a difference when you are a Believer in business. It is one thing to humbly exhibit faith and another to show it with vanity as if you are better than those who don't believe.

At any rate, perhaps I digressed a bit and should just close out my thoughts for this issue.

If you are a Believer who owns a business, you have to know that there is no business with your faith. It is because of God that you have what you do and HE expects you to take your faith into the marketplace as well.

In the Great Commission Jesus said that we are to take the message to all parts of the World. This includes the workplace too.

I hope you enjoy this monthly newsletter and find it helpful to your business and faith, because really they do mix!

Faithful Business Moves

Seeking Inspiration

When it comes to being inspired to move forward in your business endeavors then you need to find sources of inspiration. Sources of inspiration help you to stay motivated and encouraged to move forward with your business goals and plans. Great inspiring sources are your daily calls to actions.

To find sources of inspirations see how others get inspired. A word of caution here. Be careful with what inspires them. You want to makes sure that what inspires you is godly in nature. This does not mean it has to be full of scripture or super "holy". It just means not to be inspired by things that go against the Word of God.

It can be a song, a poem, a mentor or a even a book. There are a number of things that can inspire you to keep the faith and move forward in your business goals.

What are your sources of inspiration? Drop us an email at latara@latarahamying.com and let us know your sources of inspiration. Make sure to give us your name, business name, and the URL where we can find your business. We may include your response in the next issue of Proverbial Ethics.

Faithful Businesses Spotlight

    Sacred Glo Candles

Ederly Green Ramirez is truly a story about what happens in our business when we obey God's heeding. She is proof that faith and business do mix. Ederly was a woman on the move in her highly profiled corporate business, when the stress started making her sick. After much prayer and crying out to God, she heard a call from God to start making soaps.

Ederly thought she was hearing things but soon found out she was not. After a sure sign from God by way of natural product books, Ederly heeded the voice and founded Lizzie Green Creations (named after her grandmother) along with her two daughters (the official owners of the company). Soon Lizzie Green Creations became Sacred Glo Candles when Ederly got a challenge from her business coach to make candles.

With a formula created for the mind, body, and spirit, Ederly made her candles and people loved them. A candle that you can burn and use all over from head to toe was something that people were ready to try.

Ederly, along with her two daughters, officially launched her business in November of 2008, selling a record number of candles in a weekend, making her the candle maven of the internet. Now after much press and publicity, Ederly is taking her candles offline at one of the biggest farmer's market in Tampa, FL as well as a smaller one in the area. With the help of her family she is moving and grooving, giving all the glory to God.

Ederly is a testimony that if you just listen and obey God will pour out a blessing on your business and life that you not have room for.

Wise Business Builders

As a business owner there are many things that you have to do. There are so many things you do, that you often wonder about the marketing and promoting goals you have and how you are going to get the job of letting others know about your business out to the masses. How do you do it all without going crazy.

There are many things you can do to add marketing and promoting into your daily schedule. Here are a few ways you can do it without

  • Outsource: There are many service providers available who can help you with tasks that keep you from marketing and promoting your business. You can even hire the VAs to help you with your marketing and promoting efforts.
  • Choose A One Day To Share Your Business with Others: Some people take one day of the week and market their business. With the right planning and action steps, you can successfully market and promote your business one day a week.
  • Promote While You Network: Networking is a good way to promote your business. Have your business cards, elevator speech, and other promotional materials ready to share with others.
  • Promote In Casual Conversation: There is nothing wrong with sharing how your business can benefit someone you may be casually conversating with. You may be getting your hair done or sitting at a dinner with friends when the conversation turns towards a subject that correlates with your product or services. Don't be shy. Mention what you do and how you can help.

Marketing and promoting is about more than advertising. It is about letting others know who you are, what you do, how you do what you do and why. Again, there are many ways to market and promote your business but the best way to do it, is to look for those times during your day that you can simply, but effectively, add the two aspects into your day.
